I mourn for Palestine
A land of peace and olive trees
A land that has seen nothing but suffering for 75 years
A land that welcomed everyone with open arms, only for their people to be murdered by ruthless bombs
They steal our lands and steal our farms and swear it is their birthright
Then they bomb our people and murder our children by night
That is not a birthright
That is a history that they want to rewrite
You silence us and make us out to be the villains
All because you know that we will not stand for your crimes against millions
You forgot that students have nothing to lose
We will never fall for your propaganda or fake news
The world swore they’d never let the atrocities of the holocaust come to pass once again
And yet you watch as children starve and mothers mourn in vain
You say you’d never support the murder of innocents
Yet when it comes to Palestine everyone acts as if its one big accident
When did the world become so accustomed to death
To scrolling on our phones watching a genocide without even losing a breath
When did starvation become an accessory to war
When did children’s innocent cries become so easy to ignore
When did you lose your humanity and allow millions to go hungry
While silencing the ones fighting for their country
Bloodshed does not matter as longs as its a minority
The world dismisses their pain as if they have some divine authority
An authority over who lives and who dies
Who deserves mercy and who deserves to cry
You sit in your privilege and ignore those in pain
You silence the students fighting to end the tyrants’ reign
You claim to uphold the rights of all humanity
And yet your actions depict a different mentality
And years from now when this is all over
They’ll dedicate a day or even a week to the lives lost as if that offers some closure
Everyone will have been on Palestine’s side
Even though we were silenced and our pleads were unjustly denied
I mourn for the children of Palestine
Children who have known no childhood except that of bombs and stolen dreams
As Mahmoud Darwish said:
سلام لارض خلقت للسلام وما رأت يوما سلاما.
Peace to a land that was created for peace and never saw a peaceful day.
