The incumbent University of Queensland Union [FOCUS] ticket has today defied the odds to claim their second unopposed election in six months.

Samuel Ngugi was declared Treasurer Friday just after 1:25pm.

SemperĀ understands that three people originally nominated for the Treasurer by-election before nominations closed midday Wednesday, but two candidates withdrew their nomination.

This unopposed election makes for an unlikely result that has not been seen since the [FOCUS] campaign team managed the exact same turn of events at the 2017 general elections.

“Mr Ngugi joins a great team of student leaders, and we all look forward to working with him closely,” said Acting President of the UQ Union Rowan Evans in a statement today.
